Nick's Pizza & Pub 'Couldn't Sustain' Its Chicago Location: Owner

The restaurant chain's Crystal Lake and Elgin locations were paying for the new Chicago spot's losses, owner Nick Sarillo said.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — The Nick's Pizza & Pub restaurant chain will keep its Crystal Lake and Elgin locations open, but close its new spot in Chicago, the chain's owner announced in a Facebook video post. Nick Sarillo opened his Crystal Lake pizzeria in 1995, and its success eventually led to another spot opening in Elgin. But Nick's Pizza & Pub will close its Lincoln Square location Nov. 4, Sarillo said.

“Our other two restaurants in Crystal Lake and Elgin couldn’t sustain paying for the losses in this new restaurant anymore and we need those two restaurants to stay open,” he said.

Eater Chicago called Sarillo's Facebook post "refreshingly honest." The report noted there's plenty of pizzeria competition on Chicago's North Side.

“It was 2004 when I first dreamed of bringing Nick’s Pizza & Pub to the North Side of Chicago, back to my old neighborhood where I grew up,” he said in the Facebook video.
