No Chickens in Cary

Council Members were split on the issue with Mayor Mark Kownick casting the deciding no vote.

An issue that began in Cary back in August died last week when the city council decided not to allow chickens in city limits. Back then, residents began asking whether the animals were allowed. What followed was a survey for residents that found 47.19 percent wanted to allow backyard chickens while 50.68 did not, the Northwest Herald is reporting.

“Ultimately, it was decided that it was not appropriate for the village of Cary,” Village Administrator Chris Clark told the Northwest Herald. “Most commentary I’ve received on the issue is that it would be appropriate for a country environment ... but people I’ve spoken with don’t feel it matches our town.”
