Outdoor Pickleball Courts Coming to Crystal Lake Park

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — The Crystal Lake Park District has began work to convert the two tennis courts at Spoerl Park into six permanent pickleball courts. The Park Board of Commissioners made the decision to provide dedicated pickleball courts after receiving numerous requests from the public requesting the courts, according to a news release from the park district.

The tentative date for completion of the pickleball complex is September 1. Spoerl Park is located at 7610 Pingree Rd, Crystal Lake.

The Racket Club, a Crystal Lake Park District tennis club currently offers drop in indoor pickleball play on Wednesdays. With the addition of the six outdoor pickleball courts at Spoerl Park, The Racket Club will have the ability to host outdoor pickleball tournaments, offer pickleball lessons as well as pickleball leagues.

With the court redesign, additional parking was configured in order to accommodate the parking needs anticipated with tournament play.

Pickleball is a paddle sport created for all ages and skill levels. The rules are simple and the game is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players
