Pedestrian Standing In Traffic Hit, Killed: Police

The collision occurred late Friday night near Antioch.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — A 44-year-old Woodridge man was killed after being hit by a vehicle in Lake County late Friday night, authorities said. A preliminary investigation shows the man was, for an unknown reason, standing in the westbound lanes of traffic on Route 173 just west of Hunt Club Road in unincorporated Antioch at about 11:15 p.m. when he was hit by a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

The driver, a 33-year-old Lindenhurst woman, was taken to a hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

The Woodridge man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His vehicle was found near the crash scene and was stuck on a large landscaping rock.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and is in the process of scheduling an autopsy, police said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team.
