Rep. Casten Rap Video Draws Criticism From Ives' Campaign
Sixth Congressional District Rep. Sean Casten calls people "loony" and "racist" in the video, which emerged this past week on YouTube.

DOWNGERS GROVE, IL — Sixth Congressional District challenger Jeanne Ives is slamming Democratic Rep. Sean Casten for a rap video from 2019 where the first-term congressman talks about politicians "unwilling to say anything to alienate their base" and that "base," which is "racist and science-denying and loony."
"Yeah, I said it, so sue me," a casually-dressed Casten goes on to rap. A YouTube video posted this past week by the Daily Caller shows Casten on stage while he tells an audience that he writes rap songs when he's angry.
Casten's campaign confirmed Monday the video was shot during a political fundraiser at a Downers Grove pub in September, the Daily Herald is reporting. Casten plays the keyboard for Rockapedia, which is among several bands that took the stage at the pub that night.

The rap video is now drawing criticism from Ives' campaign.
"This may be Sean Casten’s most cringe-worthy attempt to stoke hate and division yet. If all this video revealed was Casten’s limited rap ability, it would be funny but not important," according to the statement. "The video is important, however, because it shows the way Sean Casten and his supporters talk about those who disagree with him behind closed doors: 'racists,' 'deniers,' 'looney."

The statement also claims Casten supporters, who are "emboldened by his dehumanizing characterizations," are responsible for "defacing Jeanne Ives' signs with the most misogynistic and degrading possible words."
In a response posted to his Twitter account, Casten said, "The rumors are true, I like rap music and I don't like racists. Thanks to all who called our office today to praise my flow."
He said he doesn't have any raps planned for the near future but will continue his fight for equality."
The 6th Congressional District includes portions of McHenry, Cook, DuPage, Kane and Lake counties. Independent candidate Bill Redpath is also running for the seat in the Nov. 3 election.
