Sheriff's Office Find Rifle Thought Used in Shooting of 2 Deputies

Investigators also uncover other firearms on Friday from the home of Scott Peters, according to McHenry Co. Sheriff's Office.

Investigators recovered a rifle Friday they believe was used to shoot two McHenry County sheriff’s deputies responding to a domestic dispute call in Holiday Hills last week.

The weapon, along with a ballistic vest and a helmet, were found in a channel near Holiday Drive in Holiday Hills by investigators from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, a release stated.

Scott Peters, 52, is accused of shooting Deputies Dwight Maness and Khalia Satkiewicz with a rifle Thursday, Oct. 16, when they were doing a residential well-being check at a home in the 1300 block of N. East Shore Drive in Holiday Hills. Peter was charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm against a police officer, and a judge ordered him held on a $1 million bond Friday.

Both deputies were in good condition Friday morning, according to reports.

Sheriff’s investigators also recovered firearms from Peters’ home, although they are not believed to have been used in the shooting, the release stated. Peters, however, does not have a valid state Firearms Owner Identification card or conceal carry license, the release added.

Peters’ case resumes Tuesday.
