Snow Day: Area Schools, Libraries, Colleges Close Friday

UPDATED AT 4:30 A.M. ON FRIDAY: Who is ready for a snow day? A winter storm warning took effect at 6 p.m. Thursday and will continue through noon on Friday. The heavy snowfall could make this morning's commute particularly challenging and officials have been urging Chicago area residents not to travel today if they do not have to.

Early Friday, Illinois State Police said ramps and overpasses were particularly dangerous, according to WGN's Lauren Jiggetts.

Meanwhile, most Chicago area schools have a snow day but also several libraries, park districts, businesses and preschools have also cancelled programs and closed for the day.
