Snow, Sleet, Rain On Its Way: Who Will Be The Hardest Hit?

Between 1 to 4 inches of snow is expected for the Chicago area today. A winter weather advisory is in effect for Lake and McHenry counties.

We know – it's supposed to start to feel like spring one of these days, right? But Wednesday is not that day. The day could bring sleet, snow, high wind gusts and even the possibility of some thunder.

A winter weather advisory has been issued for 10 a.m. Wednesday through 1 a.m. Thursday for Lake and McHenry counties. A period of mixed precipitation is expected from mid-morning through mid-afternoon with some potential for accumulating snow, sleet and freezing rain. The precipitation is expected to change to all snow by Wednesday afternoon and should continue into the evening rush hour, according to the National Weather Service.

Between one to four inches of snow and sleet accumulations are expected for those under a winter weather advisory.

A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for the southern and western suburbs where lower accumulation numbers and a chance for thunderstorms are expected. Counties in the outlook area include Kane, Cook, DuPage, Will and Kendall counties. Severe weather is not expected.

Officials are cautioning that roadways will be slippery Wednesday morning and afternoon in Lake and McHenry counties but the worst road conditions are expected this evening. Drivers should expect reduced visibility at times, according to the National Weather Service.

As for when exactly the rain, snow and sleet is expected today for Lake and McHenry counties, weather forecasters predict that wintry mix will happen before 2 p.m. A mix of rain and sleet is expected between 2 and 3 p.m. and then rain and snow after 3 p.m. Some thunder is also possible. A in the mid-30s is in the forecast and wind gusts up to 25 mph are possible.

On Wednesday night, there will be mainly snow before 1 a.m. Thursday. Wind gusts of up to 25 mph are also in the forecast.
