SweetPea Cake & Cupcakery Closes
The bakery in downtown Crystal Lake has closed its doors due to financial constraints brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — A longtime bakery in downtown Crystal Lake has closed following sluggish business during the COVID-19 pandemic. SweetPea Cake & Cupcakery, 40 N. Williams Street, permanently shut its doors in recent days after seeing its sales drop off.
The forced statewide shutdown in businesses amid concerns over the coronavirus as well as the "unknown pause on social gatherings" led to the closure, according to a post on the SweetPea Cake & Cupcakery Facebook page.
The business sold specialty cupcakes, custom cakes for special occasions and other sweet treats.
