Thunderstorms Could Hit Area Over Next Hour
A thunderstorm watch is in effect through 1 a.m. for McHenry, Cook, Kane and Lake counties.

Strong thunderstorms could move through the area over the next hour, bringing up to 45 mph wind gusts, heavy downpours and cloud to ground lightning, according to the National Weather Service. A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 1 a.m. for much of northeastern Illinois, including Lake, McHenry, Kane and Cook counties. The leading edge of the scattered storms will move into the western and northwestern suburbs of Chicago after 9 p.m. and will move east-southeast at 30 to 40 mph across northern Illinois.
The storms will likely reach the city of Chicago around 10 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
