Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Lake, McHenry Counties

The counties could see between 4 to 8 inches of snow over the next day.

So, here we go again. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory, which will take effect Monday at 6 p.m. and continue through 4 p.m. on Tuesday, for McHenry, Lake, Kane, Cook and DuPage counties. Snow and freezing rain is expected during this round of nasty winter weather with total snow accumulations of three to six inches expected in Lake and McHenry counties and between one to four inches for DuPage, Cook and Kane counties, with the towns in the northern portions of these counties expected to see the most snowfall.

Ice accumulations of up to a 1/10-inch are possible Monday night for McHenry and Lake counties and 1/4-inch of ice accumulation could coat roadways across portions of DuPage, Kane and Cook counties.

Strong westerly wind gusts will begin to develop late Tuesday and continue overnight. The wind may lead to blowing snow and could also increase the chances of power outages, especially for areas that see more significant ice accumulation, according to weather officials.
