2021 Pizza Wars Raises $8K To Benefit District 99 Students

The popular fundraiser was held online this year, but that didn't stop residents and local businesses from supporting the cause.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — District 99's 2021 Pizza Wars may not have been held in person, but the event still raked in $8,000 to benefit students and teachers throughout the district. The fundraising event, which has been held by the District 99 Education Foundation since 2014, helps fund scholarships for students and grants for teachers.

“Even though we couldn’t be together in person this year, we felt the love from the community for our students and pizzeria partners,” District 99 Education Foundation President Julia Kennedy Beckman said in a news release. “Thank you to our generous community for continuing to support our many initiatives helping District 99 students and their families.”

The following pizzerias throughout Downers Grove and Woodridge took part in the 2021 Pizza Wars event:

Since the popular tasting portion of Pizza Wars could not take place in 2021, residents were encouraged to support the participating pizza joints by ordering out.

The Pizza Wars fundraiser benefits the District 99 Education Foundation, which provides grants, scholarships and programming to aid District 99 students. In 2020, the Education Foundation provided over $50,000 to help make face shields for health care workers and give gift cards to families in need throughout the pandemic, in addition to other initiatives.
