Bead Heaven Hoping To Remain Open, Part Of Community

Bead Heaven is holding a storewide sale as the owners prepare to close, but a deal may be in the works to keep the store open.

A Downers Grove fixture for more than 10 years is hoping to keep its doors open even as its owners take steps toward closing.

Bead Heaven, located at 5151 Main St., is in the process of negotiating with a potential buyer, but the owners are holding a storewide sale as a precautionary measure, should the deal fall through, said Liz Slayton, one of the owners.

The owners are trying to sell the business as one of the owners now resides in Florida, and Slayton said she has too many other personal commitments.

“We would love to see it stay open,” Slayton said. “We have been a part of the community for more than 10 years.”

On Wednesday afternoon shoppers of all ages, from teens on up, were perusing the beads and baubles in the store. Depending on the item, some items were as much as 75 percent off.

“It’s a beautiful store and we have a great inventory,” Slayton said. “We have tried to have a good cross-section of merchandise.”

Slayton remains hopeful the owners will be able to negotiate the sale of the business.

“I hope it will sell. And, I hope it stays in the community. We have a lot of loyal customers,” she said.
