Boxing Club Rallies Behind Downers Grove North Grad Battling Breast Cancer

Fundraisers will be held Oct. 18-19 at Knockout Women's Boxing Club in Westmont to support North High Alumna Lyndsie Blythe Thoele.

Knockout Women's Boxing Club in Westmont will host a fundraiser Friday, Oct. 18, and Saturday, Oct. 19, in honor of a Downers Grove North alumna battling breast cancer.

This is the third annual breast cancer fundraiser hosted by the boxing club, located at 95 W. 61st St. in Westmont. This year, all proceeds will benefit North High graduate Lyndsie Blythe Thoele, who was recently diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer at the age of 31.

"Round 3 for Lyndsie" includes a co-ed boxing class at 6:30 p.m. Friday and an after-party at Neutral Zone in Westmont. Women-only boxing classes will be offered at 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Saturday, with an open house to follow.

The cost is $20 per person.

The cause is very close to Knockout owner Jessica Storch's heart, as she lost her grandmother to the disease just five years ago. When she learned that Thoele, her former classmate, was battling the disease, she knew she wanted to help.

“This is our third year hosting our breast cancer fundraiser, so we are calling it Round 3 for Lyndsie," Storch said in a press release. "This disease affects so many women. It’s a cause Knockout Women’s Boxing Club really rallies behind. We are going to do all we can to show Lyndsie we are in her corner and fighting for her."

Many of Thoele's former classmates have come together to create "Care for Lyndsie" to help raise funds and provide support. Another fundraiser will be held Nov. 16 at Pinstripes in Oak Brook.
