Lombard, Illinois – Hearing instrumental performances of “I’ll Be There,” “Let’s Stay Together,” “Isn’t She Lovely,” and “Lovely Day” could be among those hits played on a normal set for a Chicago area club band. But this coming Wednesday they will be performed live at church.

Christ Church Butterfield, located at 2S361 Glen Park Road in Lombard, is inviting the public to the outdoor gathering from 4:30– 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 2 to enjoy the instrumental performances of modern popular songs, as well purchase tasty treats from Dee’s Place and Perk-n-Pickle food trucks.

“We have been doing this for a few weeks now and really want the public to know they can come enjoy the evening with no obligations or expectations other than to meet some of their neighbors, enjoy great music and some tasty food,” said Amy Moran, Campus Operations & Logistics Manager.

The church is holding neighborhood gatherings outdoors at its location every Wednesday evening through September 29 in partnership with community members, food truck owners, park district and others as an effort to show love to the neighborhood, Moran said.

Performing artists include Mark Nelson a Chicago-based pianist and keyboardist, synth programmer and audio engineer who plays jazz, musicals, Afro-Cuban styles, original rock projects, classical, and gospel music. He earned a degree in Jazz Studies: Piano from North Central College.

Saxophonist Chicago native Harley Figueroa has performed with a variety of artists including The Temptations, Gloria Estefan, Rose Royce, Jerry Rivera, Diego y Amanda Miguel, Puchi and others. His unique “soulfully Latin groovy” sound has made him a premier sought after saxophonist in the Midwest.

Other band members include Chris Siebold, electric guitar, Danya Thompson, drums, Clay Camfield, acoustic guitar and Dave Garza on bass. Siebold is an acclaimed guitarist, composer and musical producer, and adjunct professor of music at Elmhurst University. Thompson is Contemporary Worship Coordinator at the church. He has toured with artists such as Common, Leigh Jones and Kelly Clarkson. Garza is the church’s Contemporary Worship Director.

All performing artists are regular musicians in the worship band at Christ Church Butterfield. Some of the featured artists can be heard during this preservice song at last year’s Father’s Day Contemporary worship service here: https://bit.ly/3yJaXLX. The church, which opened as a branch location in 2018, does events throughout the year to get to know its neighbors.

“These gatherings are about being a good neighbor and answering the Church’s charge to spread God’s love,” said Campus Pastor Rev. Eric Camfield. “I believe that the more we show each other love the more we can transform our lives and the lives of others.”

Appropriately enough, one of the songs set to be performed is Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin.’”
