Community remembers 2011 Downers Grove North graduate Ben Silver

Former all state cross country runner, 22, took own life after struggles with mental illness.

A three-time all state cross country runner for Downers Grove North High School, Ben Silver, 22, was remembered by friends and family after he took his own life July 2, according to a story in the Suburban Life.

Silver was the only Downers Grove North runner to make all state three times, according to the Suburban Life. A good student through his freshman year at Miami University of Ohio, his grades began to slip as a sophomore, he experienced difficulties, was diagnosed with mental illness and took his own life. A former coach praised his success and determination.
