DGN Girls Swim and Dive Team Places 5th in Sectionals

The Downers Grove North Girls Swim and Dive Team placed fifth of 12 teams in the IHSA Downers Grove Sectional meet on Saturday, November 14 at Downers Grove North High School.

The Glenbard West-South Coop team won the sectional meet.

Downers Grove North’s Elizabeth Aument placed first in the diving competition and Emily Aument placed second. Both will be advancing to the IHSA State Final on November 20 and 21. The twin sisters, who are juniors, both broke the previous pool record with career high points of 502.55 for Elizabeth and 499.70 for Emily. This will be their third year going to the state championship. DGN Diving Coach Anthony Ciezadlo won the Diving Sectional Coach award.

The DGN swimmers ended their season strongly, with all swimming their best times of the season at the sectional meet. Sophomore Ellie Benge placed 2nd in both the 200 Yard Individual Medley and the 100 Yard Butterfly events. Sophomore Emma Roche placed 3rd in the 100 Yard Butterfly. Freshman Jaye Sevcik placed 4th in the 200 Yard IM event. The team of Cassandra Candel, Maddy Carroll, Emma Roche, and Ellie Benge took third place in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay.
