District 99 Students Earn Medals In National Spanish Exam
Students from Downers Grove North and South High Schools earned silver and bronze medals for their performance on the exam.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — More than a dozen Downers Grove students earned medals for their performance on the National Spanish Exam.
The awards were given as follows:
Level 5 Silver Medal: August Balicki, Downers South

Level 4 Silver Medal: Anika Canamedi and Taran Mellacheruvu, Downers North; Jessica Alcantara, Nirmal Nathan and Timothy Neumann, Downers South
Level 4 Bronze Medal: Mikayla Cichy, Isabella Samsa and Megan Thompson, Downers North; Kaitlyn Steffgen and Emilia Swierzb, Downers South

Level 3 Silver Medal: Helen Larkin, Downers North
Level 3 Bronze Medal: Kirsten Anderson, Kaitlin Jeschke and Anabel Levan, Downers North
The National Spanish Exams were given to students grades 6 through 12 between March 1 and April 10.
“Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious,” Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, National Director of the National Spanish Examinations, said in a news release.
Cessna-Buscemi added, "The exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with over 60,000 students participating in 2021."
