Downers Grove Gets 7th Consecutive Green Fleet Award

DOWNERS GROVE, IL - The Village of Downers Grove has been recognized for its fleet of eco-friendly vehicles once again. Village officials recently announced that Downers Grove was named among the Top 50 Greenest Fleets in North America for the 7th year in a row.

According to a news release, Downers Grove used "some type of alternative fuel" in nearly 85 percent of its municipal vehicles in 2018. Among these fuels is compressed natural gas, or CNG, which the village uses in a number of its vehicles, including its 5-ton trucks.

Hybrid electric cars are another green asset that has been added to the village's fleet in 2019. The cars are used by community support officers from the Downers Grove Police Department and have averaged around 75 miles per gallon so far, officials said.
