Downers Grove Native Named First Female Pro NHL Scout: Report
Cammi Granato captained the gold medal-winning U.S. Olympic Hockey Team in 1998.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Cammi Granato has come a long way since her days growing up in Downers Grove and dreaming of playing in the NHL. More than two decades later, Granato has exceeded her dreams, hitting yet another milestone by being named the first female pro scout for the NHL, NBC Sports reports.
She will work as scout for a new Seattle-based franchise that debuts in 2021.
The 48-year-old Granato is no stranger to making history. She captained the U.S. Olympic hockey team in 1998, leading them to a gold medal.

Since her retirement in 2005, Granato was one of the first women named to the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame. She also helped coach the 2017 U.S. Olympic team to victory via video-conference from Vancouver, where she lives with her husband and two children.
