Downers Grove is the No. 1 City in America For Treats this Halloween, Nextdoor Says

Downers Grove has been named the number one city in the United States for collecting sweet treats this Halloween, Nextdoor reported this month.

“The decision was based on data that we gathered from a Halloween feature that we turn on each year called the Nextdoor Treat Map,” Anne Dreshfield, the communications manager for Nextdoor, said. “The map allows neighbors to indicate whether they will be passing out candy on Halloween.”

The Best Cities for Treats List, Dreshfield explained, is curated based on the ratio of the number of Nextdoor members who indicated they were passing out candy on the Treat Map in 2015 to the total Nextdoor members per city.

This is the second year a top-ten list has been curated from this data analysis.

Cities that qualified for the analysis have more than 5,000 members active on Nextdoor, and Downers Grove ended up having the highest ratio of all cities.

Downers Grove residents could use the Treat Map to indicate they’re passing out candy starting Oct. 3, and will still be able to use the feature until Halloween, when they can take the completed map around town with them via their phones. It’s also possible to indicate if they’ll be hosting a haunted house this Halloween, and where it will be.

The Treat Map displays itself as a clean-cut, simple neighborhood map that uses purple houses to indicate where there will be haunted houses and candy corn icons to indicate which houses will be passing out candy on Halloween.
