Downers Grove North tennis player becomes Oak Brook athlete of the year
Four –year varsity tennis player Mike Young honored for prep sports achievements.
After spending four years as a varsity tennis player for Downers Grove North High School, Mark Young was named Oak Brook’s male athlete of the year recently by the committee which has been doing it since 1974, according to a story in the Chicago Tribune.
After reaching the state tournament as a junior and becoming captain of the team as a senior, Young said he was thrilled with the prize. “There are some really good athletes who have won the award in the past, and it’s great to be recognized in my home town,” he said in the Tribune. He will attend the University of Illinois in the fall but has decided not to play tennis.
