Downers Grove Park District Seeks Chili Cook-Off Competitors

The Downers Grove Park District is seeking competitors for its inaugural "Chilympics Chili Cook-Off."
The event will be held Saturday, Sept. 28, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Fishel Park, 1036 Grove St. The cook-off is sanctioned by the International Chili Society (ICS), so the winner will advance to the World Finals in California next month to compete for the grand prize.
The contest is open to all ages. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three winners. There will also be a People's Choice competition at 2 p.m., which is open for public tasting. The cost for People's Choice is $5 for three tastings.
The cost to enter Chilympics is $55, which includes a $20 membership fee to ICS and a $35 registration fee. Competitors must fill out all required applications online at http://www.dgparks.org/Recreation/Chilympics.html prior to Sept. 13.Â

Football Games: Downers Grove North (2-0) will host Glenbard West at 7:30 p.m. Friday. South High (0-2) will take on host Addison Trail at 7:30 p.m.
Firefly Nightlight Golf Open: The Downers Grove Park District will host the 33rd annual Firefly Nightlight Golf Open at 8 p.m. Friday at the Downers Grove Golf Club, 2420 Haddow Ave. The popular event is a foursome scramble with prizes awarded to the first three low gross foursomes. Downtown Downers Grove Market: The Downtown Downers Grove Market is held every Saturday from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., through Oct. 19.
