Downers Grove Residents Get A Lot of Slashed Tires for Christmas: Police
There were several incidents reported on the township's police blotter over the holidays.
Several Downers Grove residents received a particularly unwelcome gift this Christmas: dead tires.
Flattened or slashed tires were a common theme on the Downers Grove police blotter through the holidays this year. In one incident, a woman watching a house in the 5000 block of Cumnor Road reported on Christmas Day she’d found four flat tires on a car parked in the driveway.
The woman was watching the home while the family who lives there was on vacation, police said. She said she noticed the flat tires on a 2015 Hyundai parked at the house around 1 p.m. on Christmas Day. She’d been watching the house for five days, she said, but hadn’t noticed anything out of the ordinary since snow had been covering the car's wheels prior to Christmas. After checking the rest of the home, police said they suspected the home had been burglarized.

In another case two days later, on Dec. 27, a man who had just come home from traveling during the holidays came home to find all four tires of his 2000 black Saab slashed. According to police, each tire had a 1-inch laceration in the upper part of the rubber.
The man, who lives on Sherwood Avenue, said he didn’t have any leads for suspects. He lost an estimated $800 as a result of the crime.
