Downers Man Charged With Contributing to Delinquency of Minor
Downers Grove police reports, July 31

A Downers Grove man and a Chicago woman are headed to court after an incident at a hotel involving a 17-year-old girl.
Michael Z. Bassaly, 27, of the 2000 block of Prentiss Drive, and Vanessa R. Ramon, 23, of the 5400 block of Agatite Avenue, were each charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The two were taken into custody sometime after noon on July 31 on the 1500 block of Opus Place, according to a police report.
Bassaly and Ramon were questioned after the hotel's general manager saw Ramon and the girl take glasses from an unmanned bar at the hotel lounge and begin to pour liquor from a 750 ml bottle, according to the report. The manager told them they were not allowed to dispense their own liquor.

The manager asked the two females for identification — only one had ID, but she said it was in her room. They told him they were staying with Michael Bassaly. They went up to his room to get the ID, but never came back and were uncooperative when reached by the hotel room phone, the report said. The manager called police.
Police arrived and Bassaly appeared with the females. Bassaly said that they were with him and staying in his room, but he wasn't aware of what had occurred between them and the manager because he was sleeping.

Ramon let an officer look in her purse for identification, and then the officer talked to Bassaly. The details of these interactions were redacted in the police report made available to media.
At some point, Bassaly's attorney arrived at the hotel. Bassaly invoked his right to counsel and said he would not answer any questions, according to the report.
Bassaly, Ramon and the girl were all transported separately to the Downers Grove Police Department and kept in different rooms. Bassaly was charged and released on $150 bond with an Aug. 28 court date in Wheaton.
Ramon was charged and released on I-bond with an Aug. 28 court date in Wheaton. But she was unable to post $1,000 bond on a Grundy County arrest warrant. She was transported to the DuPage County Jail where she was later released.
The 17-year-old was released without charged and turned over to the custody of her father at 8 p.m., the report said.
