Fireworks Cause $5K In Damage To Parking Garage In Downers Grove
Police say someone lit off fireworks inside a parking garage, causing "significant burning and $5,000 in damage.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — A parking garage in Downers Grove recently sustained thousands of dollars in damage after someone lit off fireworks that "got out of control," a police report states.
The incident took place at a parking garage at 3200 Highland Avenue sometime between 5 p.m. July 1 and 8:30 a.m. July 2.
When police got to the scene, there was no active fire, but they discovered "significant burning" on the concrete ceiling and wall of the parking garage's first floor. A nearby stairwell was also "covered with soot" from a fire, according to the police report.

Police say they spoke with an employee, who told them someone lit off "a bunch of fireworks." The employee reported finding remnants of the fireworks, along with melted wires inside conduit for the space's lighting.
The total damage was estimated at $5,000.
