'Fly Quiet' Program Leads to Increase in Air Traffic Over Downers Grove
Local officials say a Chicago program is the cause of more planes overhead.

Downers Grove residents have recently voiced concerns about an apparent uptick in area flight traffic, leading local officials to publish an update this week on measures to reduce plane noise.
"The village is aware of an increase in airline flights over Downers Grove and has received several comments and concerns about this issue from residents in the past few days," it said. The increase is most likely caused by implementation of The Fly Quiet Program at Midway and O'hare Airports."
The Fly Quiet Program is a voluntary program that encourages pilots and air traffic controllers to use designated night time preferential runways and flight tracks developed by the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA), in cooperation with the Midway Noise Compatibility Commission, the airlines and the air traffic controllers.
