Great Harvest Bread Company Now Open In Downers Grove
The bakery's soft opening was postponed due to storm power outages, but now they're open for business!

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Severe storms and power outages in Downers Grove may have delayed the soft opening of Great Harvest Bread Company Wednesday, but the restaurant officially opened its doors Thursday, bringing fresh bread, sandwiches, and salads to the village's downtown area. The restaurant is planning an official grand opening for Sept. 8, but in the meantime, they will open early every day of the week to give residents a chance to sample their fare.
Great Harvest uses wheat from local farms in Montana to craft freshly baked breads, muffins, scones, and other baked goodies. Diners can start their day with a freshly brewed espresso and a giant cinnamon roll or a bacon and egg sandwich nestled between a flaky biscuit. The restaurant's sandwich selection includes a Cubano topped with house-made pickled onions, an apple bacon grilled cheese, and sunflower-infused hummus with fresh veggies.
If you're avoiding bread, Great Harvest still has options for you. The Mexicali salad, for instance, tosses turkey, avocado, black beans, and cherry tomatoes in a chipotle honey lime yogurt dressing that's made in-house.
