Inaugural 'Chilympics' Chili Cook-Off Set for Saturday in Downers Grove
Also this weekend: The village and park district's annual Recycling Extravaganza.

The Downers Grove Park District will host its inaugural "Chilympics Chili Cook-off" on Saturday.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Fishel Park, 1036 Grove St.
The contest is open to all ages. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three winners.
There will also be a People's Choice competition at 2 p.m., which is open for public tasting. The cost for People's Choice is $5 for three tastings
The cook-off is sanctioned by the International Chili Society (ICS), so the winner will advance to the World Finals in California next month to compete for the grand prize.Â

Football Games: Downers Grove North (2-2) will play at Lyons at 7:30 p.m. Friday. South High (2-2) will play at Leyden at 7:30 p.m.
Recycling Extravaganza: The village of Downers Grove and the Downers Grove Park District will host a Recycling Extravaganza from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Downers Grove Public Works Facility, 5101 Walnut Ave. The event is free and open to residents of DuPage County, but does not include businesses or not-for-profit organizations. Vehicles must enter the Recycling Extravaganza site from Curtiss Street, via northbound Walnut Avenue or Belmont Road. Access from eastbound Curtiss Street and southbound Walnut Avenue will be restricted. Vehicles must be in line by 1 p.m to be served. Those who arrive after 1 p.m. will be turned away.
Downtown Downers Grove Market: The Downtown Downers Grove Market is held every Saturday from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., through Oct. 19. The market, located in the Main Street Metra Station's south parking lot, features a variety of produce, fresh bread and pastries, coffees and other specialty foods. For more information, visit www.ymcachicago.org/indianboundary.
