Married Couple Racks Up Total Loss of $15K After Home Burglary
The Downers Grove couple lost most of the money in jewelry items.
A married couple lost an estimated $15,017 Nov. 26 when someone allegedly broke into their home and robbed them.
According to Downers Grove police, a man called the department when, after leaving the house with his wife for about three hours, he returned to find their back door had been forcibly pried open, and their master bedroom was in disarray.
All of their dresser drawers had been pulled open, a standing armoire was opened wide and a jewelry cabinet next to their bed had been ravaged, with its drawers pulled out and left on the floor.

The woman said a good amount of her jewelry had been stolen, along with her purse, which contained numerous credit cards, social security cards and other important papers. Her driver’s license and state ID were also taken. These were the only items police have specified so far in the burglary.
While the victim was able to re-secure his back door before calling police, the incident also tallied up a $250 property damage cost.
