New Head Football Coach Joins Downers Grove North

Downers South alum Joe Horeni was hired as the new head football coach and P.E. teacher at Downers North.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Downers Grove North football players will be led by a new coach going into the 2018-19 season. Joe Horeni, who graduated from Downers South in 2002, has been hired as the school's new physical education teacher and the team's head football coach.

Before coming to Downers Grove North, Horeni, who played football at Illinois College, worked as head football coach at Highland Park High School from 2015 to 2018. He was also formerly a football coach at Downers Grove South.

In a statement, Horeni said he is "thrilled" to be returning to Downers Grove. Denise Kavanaugh, Downers Grove North Athletic Director, said, "Joe’s high school coaching experience and enthusiasm are exactly what students need, both in class and on the field."

Students, parents, and staff can meet Horeni on March 12 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Downers Grove North Auditorium.
