New Weekday BNSF Schedule Adds More Trains, Adjusts Times

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Metra's new weekday schedule for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) line starts Monday, adding two trains in effort to reduce congestion on board. With the new schedule comes the addition of a weekend train to and from Chicago as part of a summer pilot program that kicks off June 8.

The new schedule adds an inbound train #1374 that will make the following stops before getting to Union Station at 7:50 a.m.:

7:14 a.m.: Highlands

7:17 a.m.: Western Springs

7:21 a.m.: Stone Avenue

7:23 a.m.: LaGrange Road

7:26 a.m.: Congress Park

7:28 a.m.: Brookfield

7:31 a.m.: Riverside

7:35 a.m.: Berwyn

Afternoon outbound commuters will have an additional train at 4:50 p.m. to alleviate crowding and increase speed.

Train 1255 will depart Union Station at 4:50 p.m. and make the following stops:

• Riverside
• Brookfield
• Hinsdale
• West Hinsdale
• Clarendon Hills
• Westmont
• Fairview Avenue.

The additional train, #1375, will depart Union Station at 4:53 p.m. and make the following stops:

• Halsted
• Berwyn
• Congress Park
• LaGrange Road
• Stone Avenue
• Western Springs
• Highlands

In addition, Metra officials say train #1200 will now leave all stations five minutes earlier.

The summer weekend pilot schedule will run from June 8 through Sept. 2, with an additional inbound train leaving Aurora at 3:20 p.m. and making the following stops before going express to arrive at Union Station by 4:23 p.m.

3:30 p.m.: Route 59

3:35 p.m.: Naperville

3:41 p.m.: Lisle

3:45 p.m.: Belmont

3:50 p.m.: Downers Grove Main Street

A new outbound Saturday train will make all regular stops from Union Station at 11:40 a.m. and getting to Aurora at 1:01 p.m.

The summer pilot program also includes a new inbound train and outbound train on Sunday and new trains on the Union Pacific Northwest and Rock Island Lines.
