Downers Grove, IL (May 27, 2021) – West Suburban Humane Society announced today a $2,000 grant investment from the newly named, Petco Love, to support their lifesaving work for animals in the Chicagoland area.

Petco Love is a nonprofit leading change for pets nationally by harnessing the power of love to make communities and pet families closer, stronger, and healthier. Since their founding in 1999 as the Petco Foundation, they’ve empowered organizations with $300 million invested to date in adoption and other lifesaving efforts. And, they’ve helped find loving homes for more than 6.5 million pets in partnership with Petco and more than 4,000 organizations, like ours, nationwide.

“Today Petco Love announces an investment in West Suburban Humane Society and hundreds of other organizations as part of our commitment to create a future in which no pet is unnecessarily euthanized,” said Susanne Kogut, President of Petco Love. “Our local investments are only one component. Last month, we also launched the first of our national tools to empower all animal lovers to drive lifesaving change right alongside us.”

“Our economy coming out of the pandemic has hit some pet owners and WSHS is receiving requests to accept dogs and cats with medical issues that an owner cannot afford to treat. Thanks to Petco Love, WSHS was able to say yes to a sociable terrier mix named Hoppo. Hoppo needed extensive surgery but she has remained a wonderful, friendly dog throughout her convalescence and will soon be ready to find a forever home,” said Carolyn Mossberger, Executive Director.

West Suburban Humane Society is a volunteer-based, no-kill animal rescue in Downers Grove, Illinois which has served the entire Chicagoland area since 1972. West Suburban Humane Society finds homes for more than 500 dogs and cats each year and provides humane education to over 400 children and adults.
