Pierce Tavern Launches Oktoberfest Menu Items

The special German-inspired menu items include a pork loin schnitzel and a flammkuchen pizza.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Pierce Tavern is ringing in Oktoberfest with special German-inspired menu items that they hope will give diners something fun to enjoy and a sense of normalcy amid the ongoing pandemic.

"It's the first time we've changed anything since quarantine," owner Sam Vlahos told Patch, adding that he's excited to have a "bit of normalcy" with fun new menu items that will keep residents wanting to dine in or out during the fall.

Diners can dig into a fried pork loin schnitzel sandwich piled high with mustard seed sauerkraut and beer cheese sauce or share a wood-fired sausage board that comes with knockwurst sausage, an old-style brat, smoked bratwurst, German potato salad, grain mustard, beer cheese and sauerkraut.

"I think the best is always the schnitzel sandwich," Vlahos told Patch, adding that the beer cheese used for the Oktoberfest dishes is made with beer from the local Goldfinger Brewing Company.

Other Oktoberfest menu items at Pierce Tavern include roasted chicken and spaetzle and a flammkuchen pizza. The flammkuchen pizza comes topped with nuekse bacon, bacon fat onions, creme fraiche sauce and caraway seeds.
