Repeated "Egging" Incidents Result in $100 Worth of Damage to Couple's Downers Grove Home: Police

Toward the end of December, the incidents were common.

A couple living on the 500 block of Austin Street isn't likely to be having eggs for breakfast any time soon.

The pair have contacted police on a handful of occasions now, reporting that someone had been vigorously “egging” their house for consecutive nights in December.

Incidents took place Dec. 23, Dec. 24 and Dec. 29, the victims explained. As a result of the consistent egging, they’re now facing $100 worth of damages to one of their front windows.

According to the woman living at the house, she’d noticed three or four teenage boys hanging out in front of her house around 10:30 p.m. Dec. 23. She said she and her husband didn’t think much of it until they went to bed and heard a loud noise, like someone knocking on the door or or breaking in.

They checked the house to no avail, but noticed the next morning their window had been egged. As of the second reported incident, the husband said there was no visible damage to the window.

By the third time, though, the responding police officer said he observed egg spatter on the glass, wood and aluminum trim of the window. The woman said she believed the whole structure would have to be repainted as a result.

The couple said they haven’t seen anyone fleeing the area after the incidents, but all three have been loud and disruptive.
