Scaled-Back Fourth Of July Celebration Planned In Downers Grove
The Fourth of July fireworks show is on, but the parade through downtown Downers Grove is a no-go.
DOWNERS GROVE, IL — After being canceled in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, Downers Grove's Fourth of July celebration will return in 2021, albeit with scaled-back festivities.
Downers Grove will join forces with Woodridge to host a fireworks display July 4 at 9:30 p.m. The fireworks show will be held at the intersection of 75th Street and Lemont Road, where village officials say there will be ample space to view the fireworks while maintaining social distancing.
Though the fireworks show will resume, the Fourth of July Parade through downtown Downers Grove will not return in 2021. In a post on the village's website, organizers said the choice to cancel the parade comes amid "uncertainty regarding changing State of Illinois guidelines."
