State Rep. Ron Sandack Quits

The Downers Grove Republican gave up his seat for "cyber security issues."

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — State Rep. Ron Sandack, who's had a rising profile in Illinois Republican politics, abruptly resigned this weekend, citing "cyber security issues" that led him to "re-evaluate" continuing to serve in the state legislature. Rich Miller at CapitolFax broke the news.

The Downers Grove Republican narrowly won a primary fight in 2014 after he came out in favor of gay marriage. Since then, he's emerged as an ally of Gov. Bruce Rauner and a floor leader in the House. He was seeking re-election to a third term this fall.

Sandack uses Facebook and Twitter regularly to communicate about local and state issues.

Sandack sent this statement to CapitolFax:

"It has been a tremendous honor and privilege to serve the people of the 81st district for the past four years in Springfield. But after some cyber security issues arose, I began to re-evaluate my continued public service.
"I have always recognized there is no greater privilege than being a father and husband. My duties in Springfield meant missing a lot of events in the lives of my children. I am no longer willing to miss important family events."

Party leaders will select a replacement to face Greg Hose, a Downers Grove Democrat, in November's 81st House District race. The district covers parts of Bolingbrook, Darien, Downers Grove, Lisle, Naperville, Westmontt and Woodridge.
