Summer Outdoor Water Restrictions In Effect In Downers Grove

The restrictions will be in place through September 15.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — With summer right around the corner and local lawns and gardens in bloom, the Village of Downers Grove has put its outdoor water restrictions in place. The village is using an alternating even and odd numbered system to help conserve water and to help maintain water pressure for those who use municipal water.

Residents whose home address ends in an even number are permitted to water their landscaping on even numbered calendar days. Those whose addresses end in an odd number can do their watering on odd numbered calendar days.

Watering times are from 4 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. These times help prevent evaporation and water waste from too many residents watering at peak times of day.

Residents who violate the water restrictions are subject to a $50 fine.

As an alternative, residents can buy rain barrels from The Conservation Foundation and use those to collect rainwater from their home's downspouts. This water can then be used to sustainably water landscaping.
