Taylor Ave. Pedestrian Tunnel Construction Set In Glen Ellyn

Construction on the underpass is expected to last through the end of 2018.

GLEN ELLYN, IL — A longtime proposal to ease congestion near the Glen Ellyn Metra stop will be realized in the coming months now that the village has set a date for construction to start on the Taylor Ave. Underpass Pedestrian Tunnel. Crews are set to begin work on the project in August and construction is expected to last at least four months, according to a news release from village officials.

The Taylor Ave. Pedestrian Tunnel will expand on the current Taylor Ave. underpass to create a designated walkway for pedestrians walking to and from the Union Pacific Railroad line. Officials hope widening the tunnel will also create more space for motorists and increase safety for emergency vehicles.

In order to expedite the project and get construction wrapped before the end of 2018, the village will completely close the underpass while work is being done. Officials say drivers should expect posted detours, lane closures, and traffic delays throughout the duration of the Taylor Ave. project.
