West Suburban Humane Society Breaks Ground On New Facility
Construction on the new facility is set to wrap up in March 2020.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL -- The animals who receive care and shelter at West Suburban Humane Society are a getting closer to having access to a new 8,300 square foot facility that will replace the converted single-family home the humane society currently uses. In the midst of ongoing fundraising efforts, officials from the West Suburban Humane Society broke ground on the new facility Tuesday with the help of Downers Grove Mayor Bob Barnett and Commissioners Marge Earl and Nicole Walus.
After the groundbreaking, Mayor Barnett shared photos from the ceremony and words of encouragement for West Suburban Humane Society. Barnett said, "[A]nimal welfare and care is part of what makes a community … and Downers Grove is better for having the [West Suburban Humane Society] be part of it."
In December of 2018, the humane society launched a campaign to raise the $4 million needed to build the new facility to replace its "gravely deteriorating" current facility, according to the humane society's GoFundMe page. Officials say the capital fund is now close to $2.8 million, but that additional funds are needed to complete the project.
