According to the park district, ice maintenance is done after the snow has been plowed for the day. Since ice skating is unsupervised, flags are used to indicate the ice conditions at the parks.
If you see a green flag on the pole, the ice is safe for skating at cleared spots. A red flag means that skating conditions are dangerous and the rink is closed.
You can also check skating and sledding conditions online at Rainout Line before you head out or by calling 630-225-7272.
