XSport Fitness Sees Series Of Locker Thefts: Downers Grove Police

One weekend in particular left a handful of people with thousands of dollars missing.

The Downers Grove chain of XSport Fitness, a popular American chain, hasn’t been a stranger to theft in recent months. One weekend in February, though, saw a series of thefts that resulted in a total loss of thousands to employees and gym-goers.

These were the cases:

One XSport employee called police when someone reportedly broke into his locker and stole money from his wallet between 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Feb. 10. The man told cops that someone had gotten into his locker by bypassing his combination lock, and that they stole $300 in cash from his belongings. A similar instance occurred Feb. 5, he said, when his wallet went missing. After his general manager performed unlocked locker checks that day, he said, his wallet was recovered with another $300 missing. He said he’s sure that he locked his locker both days that money was stolen from him.

A man who went to work out at the XSport said that on Feb. 10, he got to the gym shortly after 8 p.m. and locked his things in a locker in the men’s changing room. When he was done with his workout at 9:50 p.m., he said, he went back to the locker room to find his locker open, his lock removed and his wallet missing. The wallet contained $300, two credit cards and a debit card.

On Feb. 11, a woman called the Downers Grove police and said several things had been stolen from her locker, which she’d secured with a lock around midnight that night. She said that when she got back to the locker room around 1:30 a.m., she noticed that her lock was missing, along with her iPhone and engagement ring. She said it also looked like the suspect had gone through her wallet, but that they didn’t take anything. Her engagement ring was a 10-karat diamond on a gold band, she said. According to security footage, four women were seen leaving the locker room during the time frame the victim provided.
