Company With Ties to Felon Buys Former Elgin Hospital
John Everett Thomas, a former FBI informant, is the CEO of Freedom Development Group of Chicago--the company that bought the property.
ELGIN, IL — A company with ties to a developer who is a former FBI informant and spent time in prison has purchased the former Sherman Hospital campus north of downtown Elgin for just over $1 million, the Daily Herald is reporting. Freedom Development Group of Chicago bought the property and John Everett Thomas, who was convicted in 2015 of stealing $370,000 in TIF funds from the village of Riverdale, is the CEO and managing principal of the company.
Thomas also wore a wire tap during a federal investigation into corruption charges against Antoin "Tony" Rezko, a former fundraiser and adviser for Gov. Rod Blagojevich, according to the article.
The developer is still weighing its options and deciding what to do with the 13.7-acre campus and its three vacant buildings at 901 Center Street, Daniel Olswang, the agent who handled the sale, told the Daily Herald.
