Coronavirus: 2nd Elgin Police Civilian Employee Tests Positive

The Elgin Police Department has notified its employees about the second positive case of the coronavirus among its civilian employees.

ELGIN, IL — A second civilian employee of the Elgin Police Department tested positive for the coronavirus less than one week after the department's first civilian employee case was reported, the police department announced in a news release Monday. The employee's last day of work was on March 18, the police department said, adding that the employee was tested on March 30 and was informed of the positive test result on Sunday.

According to the news release, the police department has notified its employees about the second positive case, and recommended that employees stay at home if they begin to feel sick.

“We offer support, encouragement and positivity to our employee, who is now dealing with this very unfortunate situation," Elgin Police Chief Ana Lalley said, in the news release. “We are doing everything we can to ensure that other employees and the community are both safe and informed.”

On Thursday, the police department announced an employee tested positive, and their last day of work was on March 22. According to the police department, that employee learned of the positive test result Wednesday.
