Coronavirus: Elgin Police Civilian Employee Tests Positive

The police department has conducted a review to see if employees or the public could have been exposed to COVID-19 from the employee.

ELGIN, IL — A civilian employee for the Elgin Police Department has tested positive for the new coronavirus, city officials announced Thursday. The employee's last day of work was March 22 and that employee learned of the positive test result on Wednesday.

“We are saddened to learn that one of our own team members is now part of the growing number of individuals who are suffering from COVID-19 and will do whatever is necessary to offer support during this challenging time,” Elgin Police Chief Ana Lalley said in a statement on Thursday. “We send good thoughts and wishes to our employee during this time and we are also mindful of our responsibility to ensure that other department members and the community are safe.”

After learning of the employee's test result, police officials conducted a review to determine whether any employees or members of the public could have been exposed to COVID-19 from the employee. That review revealed no information that requires the department to take any further precautionary measures beyond what protocols and safeguards are currently in place, according to the statement from the Elgin Police Department.
