A mobile coronavirus testing unit that opened earlier this month will be available through Friday evening at the college.

ELGIN, IL — A mobile coronavirus testing unit will be available at Elgin Community College through Friday evening, after state officials again extended its stay.

The Illinois Department of Public Health first sent a mobile coronavirus testing unit to the college Feb. 8 to bolster local testing capacities. That testing unit will now be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day through Friday, according to a Kane County Health Department news release.

Tests will also be available over the weekend in Aurora, with a mobile unit scheduled to set up at the Aldi-Fox Valley Flea Market at 1500 E. New York St.

Anyone can be tested for the coronavirus at the mobile unit, regardless of symptoms, officials said, encouraging anyone who has been recently exposed to a potential or confirmed case to get tested.

Those being tested must provide a name and phone number so officials can reach them later with their test results. No photo ID is required.

Those who want to remain in their cars during the test must be seated at a functioning window, though both sites will also allow people to walk up, officials said. Test results should be available within four to seven days, officials said.

Residents can also get tested at the state's testing site across from the Chicago Premium Outlets in Aurora and many local health care facilities. Testing sites can be found here.
