Coroner IDs Woman Killed In Elgin Crash

The collision happened Sunday morning.

ELGIN, IL — A 65-year-old woman killed in a two-vehicle collision Sunday morning in Elgin has been identified as Josefina Martinez De Torres, of Uriangato, Mexico, authorities said. The crash occurred at about 9:37 a.m. Sunday when a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu was heading west on Villa Street and collided with a 2001 Kia, which was attempting to make a left turn onto Varsity Drive from Villa Street, according to a post on the Elgin Police Department Facebook page. De Torres, a passenger in the Kia, was extricated from the car and taken to Presence St. Joseph Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Preliminary findings from De Torres’ autopsy revealed she died from multiple injuries consistent with an automobile accident, according to the Kane County Coroner’s Office.

The Kia's driver, a 75-year-old woman, also needed to be extricated from the car. She was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, authorities said. The driver of the Malibu, a 22-year-old woman, was transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
