ECC Presents Bill Pelz Global Speaker Series Event

Elgin Community College will host a virtual Bill Pelz Global Speaker Series event titled “Show Me the Money! COVID-19’s Impact on Global Economies” on Monday, Oct. 5 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. This series is sponsored by the ECC Global/International Studies Team (GIST) and the Multicultural and Global Initiatives Committee (MAGIC).

“It's our pleasure to ensure that the meaningful conversations this series generates continue to support global awareness and intelligences at this challenging time. Gaining a clear understanding of international connections is more important than ever before," said Christina Marrocco, Ph.D., ECC professor of English and GIST co-chair.

ECC professors Glenn Earl, MBA, Marc Healy, MA, and Susan Timm, Ph.D., are the featured panelist for this event and will lead the discussion on the unprecedented challenges and opportunities that COVID-19 has had on the world’s economies. Join us as we examine the global pandemic from a business, economics, and entrepreneurial perspective, and learn why COVID-19 may have a longer-lasting impact than we ever imagined.

The Bill Pelz Global Speaker Series was named in memory of the late William Pelz, Ph.D., who taught history and political science at ECC for more than 19 years. The event will be moderated by GIST co-chairs, ECC professor Dr. Christina Marrocco, and Lauren Nehlsen, Ph.D., director of international education and programs.

"The Bill Pelz Global Speaker Series remains committed to highlighting issues of global importance by incorporating the voices of ECC scholars,” said Dr. Lauren Nehlsen “We are pleased to offer this virtual event to the ECC and District 509 community to engage and discuss the impact of COVID-19 on the world's economies."
