Elgin Among Best IL Cities For Families: Study

ELGIN, IL — Elgin has made the list of Illinois' best cities to raise a family, according to a recent study by WalletHub.

Elgin came in No. 143 in the ranking. Much of the northwest suburbs made the list, which is based on a number of factors like playgrounds per capita, attractions, median family income, affordable housing, crime rates and many others.

These factors are among 21 that WalletHub researchers used to compile the data, all organized into four major dimensions: 1) family life and fun, 2) education, health and safety, 3) affordability and 4) socio-economics. The rankings included 222 of Illinois' 1,299 municipalities.

Elgin's best category is family life and fun, where it came in No. 37 in the state. In the other categories, Elgin ranked between 138 and 184, so Elgin's family life and fun score is really what brought them to No. 143.
