Elgin Community College Food Pantry To Remain Open To Students

The Elgin Community College food pantry will continue to serve students despite the school returning to online classes amid the pandemic.

ELGIN, IL — Students at Elgin Community College can stop by the Spartan Food Pantry several days each week for groceries, after the school allowed the pantry to continue operating on a limited basis despite most classes reverting to an online model.

The pantry will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Students must wear masks and practice social distancing while at the pantry, according to a news release. Students must also show their current student ID.

“Despite the disruptions and transition to an online model for most classes at ECC, PTK believes that every student should have access to food regardless of their financial status,” said Lukas Munoz, who is a student officer for the Spartan Food Pantry and a member of Phi Theta Kappa.

Students who are on campus for a class or appointment can visit the pantry by entering through the main door in Room B175 in Building B, while students who are not on campus must pick up items by going to the outside door of Room B175, the release states.
